COLLECt

To gather together, to choose, to order.

What do you collect?

An excellent question I was once asked by an acquaintance in a pub. The short answer is everything.

My mum gave me my first box. Personalised and perfect. It was a plastic tub (once a cracker variety box) with a jam label on the lid that read ‘Catherine’s Gubbins’. I loved filling that box as I had ‘gubbins’ a plenty. It was joyous. My next favourite thing was to put it on a shelf or under the bed and forget about it and its contents just long enough to experience that thrill of discovery when I opened it again. I have continued this ritual throughout my life; filling boxes, tins, suitcases. Ordering and reordering and discovering anew.

When I learnt how to make boxes my world changed. That I could make a structurally sound box to any size, to hold anything; cover it in what I liked and even foil lettering onto it? I could hardly comprehend that this was possible. But it was, and it is, and now I can make a box for you. And it can be as sensible, sentimental or as silly as you like.
